Entrepreneur Terry Croteau is entering a new chapter in life – one focused on landscaping, outdoor living, and personal wellness. In this conversation, he shares why reinvention after 50 can be one of the most exciting times in life.
Interviewer: Terry, many people talk about reinvention later in life. What inspired you to start this new chapter?
Terry Croteau:
Life has a way of bringing you to new crossroads when you least expect it. For me, this stage of life is about reinvention – not because I had to, but because I wanted to.
Over the years I’ve learned a lot through experience, challenges, and opportunities. At this point I’ve decided to focus my energy on things that really matter to me: working with my hands, building beautiful outdoor spaces, and living a healthier, more balanced life.
Today my focus is landscaping, outdoor living design, and wellness-centered living. It combines creativity, craftsmanship, and a real appreciation for nature. Honestly, it just feels like the right direction for me.
Interviewer: Why do you think outdoor spaces have become so important to homeowners?
Terry Croteau:
One thing I’ve noticed over the years is how much people value their homes, especially their outdoor spaces.
A backyard isn’t just a yard anymore. It can be where families gather, where friends share meals, where people unwind after work, or where someone simply enjoys a quiet morning coffee.
Through landscaping and hardscaping projects like patios, stone walkways, and backyard design, I really enjoy helping people transform those spaces into something special.
There’s something very satisfying about building something that people will use and enjoy for years. It’s not just construction – it’s creating a place where people can relax and connect.
Interviewer: You’ve also spoken about wellness being part of this journey. How does that connect with your work?
Terry Croteau:
Wellness has definitely become more important to me over time. Yoga, for example, has become part of my life. It’s a simple practice, but it can make a big difference – reducing stress, improving flexibility, and helping you clear your mind.
When you combine wellness with outdoor environments, something interesting happens.
Nature slows people down.
Fresh air, natural materials, greenery, and quiet spaces help people breathe and reset. That’s why I believe outdoor design is becoming more important today. A well-designed backyard can become a personal retreat.
Interviewer: Many people feel nervous about starting something new after 50. What’s your perspective on that?
Terry Croteau:
I actually think it can be one of the best times to start something new.
There’s a growing movement of people over 50 reinventing themselves. Instead of slowing down, they’re building businesses, exploring passions, and doing work that reflects who they really are.
Experience changes how you see things. You stop chasing things that don’t matter and focus more on meaningful work.
For me, that means working outdoors, building things that last, and helping people enjoy their homes and surroundings. There’s a lot of freedom in that mindset.
Interviewer: What are you hoping to build moving forward?
Terry Croteau:
My goal is pretty simple.
I want to build a business and a life based on honesty, quality work, and strong relationships with the people I work with.
Whether it’s redesigning someone’s backyard, building a stone patio, or offering ideas to improve an outdoor space, I want the work to reflect real care and craftsmanship.
Reputation is built one project at a time. When people see the effort that goes into something, they remember it.
Interviewer: What excites you most about the future?
Terry Croteau:
This chapter is about growth – both professionally and personally.
I plan to continue expanding my work in landscaping and outdoor living design while also embracing a lifestyle focused on wellness, nature, and balance.
I think more people are starting to recognize how important these things are. In a busy world, having a peaceful outdoor environment can make a real difference in someone’s life.
For me, the journey is just beginning – and I’m excited to see where it leads.
